Megan’s Resort in Zambales — What a rip-off

This should even cost close to 1,000 pesos!
This shouldn’t even cost close to 1k!!!

Unfortunately for us, we didn’t make an early reservation to Canoe which meant I had to make a reservation on another resort, and since Megan’s kept coming up, I decided to go with it. We tried to walk-in to Canoe anyway but sadly they were really fully booked. So we went on to Megan, and upon driving onto the property, every cell in my body was trying to pull me back to the road. It just had that LOOK. What look? The roadside resort look.

But we still parked and went to Megan’s Resort’s “reception” area. The woman said she has actually given our 1,800 reserved room to the gentleman who was also doing business with her at that very moment so she will just upgrade us to the 2,500 room. She must have mentioned this three times.

I was looking around and I was beginning to have a bad feeling about the place: videoke music was blaring from the next property which was like, 10 meters away, a large group was at the cabana right next to the room she was giving us (which was about 5 feet away) and you could tell that they were getting ready for a drinking session, and they had that LOOK. What look? The i’m-on-a-vacation-and-I’ve-decided-to-leave-manners-behind look.

H had a fake smile pasted on his face and was making choked slash laughing sounds and I knew what he was thinking. So after a final “I upgraded you” gratuitous comment, she opened the room: as expected it was sh*t. It was right beside the walkway, no ocean view whatsoever, the only view was of the nosy neighbors whom you can see effortlessly from the windows! The paint was PEELING on all sides of the walls, the bed looked, well LOOK AT IT!

I just felt so bad because I did make the reservation and she has shown us in, but H was just indignant, he actually couldn’t decide if he found the absurdity of it funny or murder-inducing. This is a 2,500 room?? then what does the 1,800 room look like??? Keh-rist. It even beats Puerto Galera in price.

He said, we don’t need to stay here. I won’t pay 1,800 for this sh*thole. I was just torn because we were already inside. H said let’s go and look for some other place and if we don’t find anything, we come back. He could tell I was already tensing up. He talked to the woman who showed us in and off we went.

We ended up in the posh Punta de Uian, which was more than double the price, but like H said, he’d rather pay for a room which had a marvelous view and good facilities, than pay 1,800 for a nightmare of a room which is guaranteed to keep us up all night from the outside noise and its sheer fugliness.

For the sake of democracy, I’ll approve this comment. BTW libre mag-tagalog, lalo na kung di ka magaling mag-english.

Hey different strokes for different folks, you obviously haven’t checked-in to anything better, so this was probably the bomb for you. You’re probably a crappy-resort aficionado or you’re the owner of this stinking hellhole.

But it’s not for me. Megan’s was anything BUT beautiful. It was an overpriced room that’s noisy, cramped, no view, with shitty rooms. Maybe you like shithole resorts, but not me. You love it so much, then blog about it yourself.

Yep we did back out as a matter of fact. After seeing the resort, room and hearing the noise. So, nope, hindi ako nag enjoy kasi I didnt stay.

I don’t believe you’ve stayed in better resorts so you don’t have a point of comparison. E kung yun ang maganda sayo can’t really say anything to convince you otherwise because taste can’t be taught (seeing as your email is, I mean who puts “cute” in their email addresses?). I imagine nakakarelax nga sa jologs na tulad mo.

I was looking for good places and resorts in Zambales and came upon here. 🙂

Ang striking ng comment, but as a blogger myself (who rarely blogs hehe), I do believe you are entitled to your opinion. 🙂 I actually liked the way you responded to the flaming comment you got. Hehhe. “Libre mag tagalog… ” oh lol. :))

And about the note your anonymous commenter Blink left, his/her comment is rather hilarious. I thought it was deliberately written to sound like that.

I think I will look up the Punta de Uian resort too, since you have suggested it. I have been reading a lot about it too and it seemed like a good place, a bit expensive, but worth it.

    🙂 you take care now.

Yeah it’s gonna be a shame to waste a nice vacation sa place na di mo magugustuhan. I would have loved to check out Canoe because it seemed decent but they were fully booked.

Siguro if I were with my friends and we were gonna stay out for most of the day the lesser resorts would have been OK. Or maybe megan’s would have been ok if they charged below 1,500. Kaso I was with my SO (significant other yihee) and staying in that place wasn’t exactly my idea of a romantic getaway.

I’m actually from Zambales and I haven’t tried any of the resorts there. Ang goal lang kasi namin is to do island-hopping so we just rent a boat and we’re off to the beautiful islands. Buti na lang nabasa ko ‘to and I saw the picture. Grabe. I never thought ganoon sa Megan’s. Ang dami pa namang pumupuntang foreigners doon. 😐

Hay Polah, you are better off island hopping, I’ve done that in Capones, camped and woke up to a great sunrise, just me, the tent and the beach. Anyway, Megan’s is a backpackers resort. Dapat. But they charge as if they’re high-end, its ridiculous. If it was P500-1,000, i’d probably not be writing such a scathing review. But 2,500? Come on.

Depeds on your expectations darling… the rooms are overpriced for the kind of crap you have to put up with. Its very very basic, noise outside is too loud, theres no view, etc.

i tried canoe and the owner is a friend. i’m not being biased but yes, they have decent accomodation though not as enticing and beautiful as punta de uian but quality wise, you’ll enjoy it.

I sure agree with you sugarhigh37. That room doesn’t even look like it should cost a thousand.. Maybe 300php. Looks so cheap and yet so costly.

This review has that look. What look? The look of a whiny bitter douche who, instead of legitimately reviewing the establishment, complains about everything from other patrons to neighboring businesses without actually finding out anything factual about the place.

You didn’t even give the place a shot – you just looked and stepped – you have no idea what the noise level would be like later or whether the people who had “The i’m-on-a-vacation-and-I’ve-decided-to-leave-manners-behind look” actually fit your judgmental assumptions. Ironically, the one who appears to be without manners winds up being you. And, I gotta’ wonder what you were expecting at a place who’s rates range from 1600P-2600P.

Look for my real review of this place in a month. I’ll actually stay there and let people know what it’s truly like. And, btw, I got a cut rate on my room at 1000P a night; not sure what your issue was, but I could venture an educated guess, based in your general attitude. The long and short: it pays to not come off like an asshole, which I’m willing to bet you do, on frequent occasions. Makes me wonder if you randomly bold your statements when you speak to people, actually…

Hay. Well, if you want to be a poster child for this mediocrity then by all means why not. But if you were expecting that I should have stayed even through the blaring karaoke music, the loud group on a pre-drinking session a few feet from the room and the bare room JUST SO I could get a “proper” review for the resort? No thanks. The five minutes I spent there with the door and windows closed yet Gino Padilla was still evidently in the room OR the loud chatter from the group just setting up outside was enough. Are you saying mali ang assumptions ko, that maybe, oh, they were actually going to speak in hushed tones or do the novena? Or the karaoke was eventually going to stop at 7pm kasi… gabi na bawal na mag ingay? You’re funny!

The long and short– you don’t have to stay in a place that isn’t up to standard. If you only have one, painstakingly squeezed-in vacation day, it’s worth spending it where you won’t be up all night (and not in a good way). If I were in a budget state of mind, then yes, I’d have stayed. But I wasn’t since the prices were mid-range, sadly the rooms and environment were low end. And yeah, congrats on your deal, but i’m sure that’s because next month, July na, tag-ulan na, low season na (well, actually ngayon pa lang..), and not because of your general un-asshole-ness.

In any case… I do hope that they have improved and I do hope you have a pleasant stay with them. Sounds to me you’re jumping the gun and defending them without actually having experienced their service yourself…

And yes, I do randomly do the bold thing… it’s a medical condition. See. See. See. *sigh*

I am looking for where we will stay at Zambales. I was actually considering Megan’s beach resort; however, due to what I’ve read… Uhm, that made me think.

Is Canoe beach resort better? 🙂
