Sogomi Enterprises – Supplier of soap & cosmetic products raw materials in the Philippines
Sometime in the middle of this year, I was struck by inspiration from out of nowhere and decided to make handmade soaps. I researched on how it’s done and it seemed doable enough, if only I could find supplier for the raw materials. Soap is basically oils (fats) and lye, and since oil is readily available, it only left me with lye to worry about. This was my first lesson in Supplier Hunt 101.
I had to search for hours and make a lot of phone calls and e-mails before I was able to find a supplier for lye. As my ambitions branched out to a more diverse range of body products, I was pestered by the same problem: there didn’t seem to be a one-stop supplier for chemicals and components for soap making and cosmetics in the Philippines. There are quite a few in Alibaba, but to my dismay, they sell them by the ton. I’ll get to that when i’m already a beauty products magnate.
Anyway, I was looking for stearic acid to act as a hardening agent for my bars of soap. After hours of fruitlessly searching, I finally stumbled upon this supplier Sogomi Enterprises in Sulit.com. I looked at the list posted in their page and voila! my prayers were answered. They sell all that I need at a practical price, AND they sell in retail! Here’s what I ordered for the first batch:
Mineral oil (as base for massage oils)
Polysorbate 20 (binding agent for immiscible compounds)
Stearic acid (hardening agent for soaps and emulsifier for other body products)
Soap colorant (red, which I was given as a freebie!)
While they are based in Laguna, the representative does regularly visit Manila and conveniently enough, they deliver for free. Since apparently I am in a convenient location (in Fairview), even as I did not meet the usual 5,000 order, Sogomi Enterprise graciously delivered my goods at home. I have been bugging my contact in Sogomi, Miguel, for some samples of the essential oils before I purchase since I have been burned by the “essential oils” from Chemworld.
I have a control batch that I actually bought online from mountainroseherbs.com, and those are premium organic essential oils, which smelled like heaven, and I could genuinely claim that my products would be aromatherapy grade. But the price of importation is a bitch, especially considering the crap that I have to deal with with corrupt customs officials. I foolishly bought lemon “essential oil” from Chemworld in Makati, and my body scrub ended up smelling like Axion. I really don’t think it was essential oil. Or maybe it came from rotten lemons.
Anyway I was pleasantly suprised and giddy this morning as my dad told me that Sogomi came round again and delivered samples at home and I saw the nice little bottles — 14 of them! I just really needed a good whiff of the essential oils so I can decide whether it passes and I didn’t expect to get the samples soon and generously to boot. As a thank you to Sogomi and to Miguel, I decided to write this blog entry in the hopes that more people find their business.
I am in marketing and in the customer service industry no less, so I know the importance about maintaining your brand and keeping your customers happy. Some of the other suppliers that I dealt with either a) does not answer e-mails b) does not answer phones c) are not flexible d) offer ridiculously high prices or e) have ridiculously high minimum orders. Never good for business. You need to keep your services consistent, efficient and friendly, guys (i’m talking to you Ticanocah and RDJ printing).
Anyway, I swiped this off their Sulit.com page, here you go people:

Hi there!
This is such a wonderful article. I am in a similar situation right now, having a hard time looking for local suppliers that are reliable and reasonably priced.
Most of the ingredients I would need are in your article.
But where do you buy your LYE?
Pls PM me your supplier of lye if that’s ok.
Thanks!
As for lye, I used to buy from Ticanocah, and the first batch of lye was good because they were crystals and easily dissolved.
However the 2nd batch which I got 7 kilos of, was complete crap because it was flakes, and they seem to have been exposed and are all stuck together so I was left with a 7kg BALL OF LYE, which I don’t even know how to dispose of to this day.
I texted the woman who supplied me with this lye and as usual was met with no reply.
Buy at your own risk, I wouldn’t recommend this supplier.
Incidentally, I sell pure essential oils (from Australia, Canada and US) as well as fragrance oils, you may leave me a message here if you’re interested.
Good luck!
hi! thanks for this! =)
hi! this is a very helpful! unfortunately sogomi still didn’t reply. how much do you sell your Essential Oils for? and by how many ml? thanks
Hi Celine,
I usually sell my essential oils for 180 per 10 mL, but i can quote for you depending on the volume you want (because 10mL cobalt blue bottles, the ones i use are pretty expensive). I have the following essential oils for sale:
Lavender 40/42 variety
Tea tree oil
Sweet orange
Lemon (smell is like Jurlique’s oil, pure lemon, not cheapass fragrance oil preteding to be essential oil)
Citronella
Grapefruit
Peppermint
I can give you discounts on bigger orders, and i can do meetups in Makati.
hi sugarhigh,
would want to know if i can order tea tree essential oil, just 10 ml. to try it out for my skin irritations. how do i go about it?
Hi Erlie, I do meet ups but 10 mL will seem like a lot of trouble for us both to do that. What I would suggest is that you go to Giga Ventures, they have a stall at Tiendesitas, Megamall, Greenhills (these are the ones that I know) or at Zen Zest. I’m pretty sure their Tea Tree oil are authentic and they sell it for about.. 100 yata for 10 mL? You can also get it from Body Shop, but it’s a lot pricier, at mga 900 i think.
I’m interested. Do you have a website or contact info sugarhigh37, so we can see what oils your selling.. Thank you.
does anyone know where i could hire and find a formulator?

can you give more list of good suppliers? im trying to contact Ticanoca, and sogomi and it seems they are not keen to answer all my inquiries thanks
Hello!
Wow!this is the excellent information I needed to read after three months of doing research about soap making. I already did my first batch of soap and just put vitamin E as a natural preservative, but I am continue looking for other antioxidants to put as additional preservatives.
Finally, I read this blog and thanks for sharing information about Sogomi Enterprises. I am wondering if they will accept orders from Davao City?
This is awesome! I must contact you when I get back to Manila… I am in Bukidnon now…
The chemist behind Sogomi is Sok Gomez and co-owner is his brother Miguel. That is why it is called SoGoMi. You will never go wrong with this supplier. If you have any questions about the chemicals do not hesitate to ask to talk to Sok Gomez. He is a walking chemistry table. I owe a lot to this man. I became quite a player in the business of soaps because of his guidance and wisdom. Just be ready with your notebook and pen when you get to talk to him as he lectures like you are a fellow chemist. This man is to emulated for his generosity in sharing his brilliance.
Sok Gomez is a U.P. graduate of Chemistry and an academic scholar throughout his college days. He also holds a Masters degree in Urban Planning from U.P. Diliman.
